Biography

Libby Halsey applies her deep-rooted industry knowledge and experience handling complex litigation to effectively represent property owners, general contractors, subcontractors, commercial suppliers, property managers, developers, and others in the construction industry.

Clients benefit from her previous litigation experience at a civil insurance defense firm where she handled numerous construction defect cases. During that time, she developed a keen understanding of the organization and preparation of large construction files – a skill that drives efficient defense for any legal issue her clients face. While working at the civil insurance defense firm, Libby gained experience working with many major general contractors, in both the commercial and residential construction industry.

Libby further developed her construction law knowledge while working in the legal department of a major general contractor on the West Coast. Now at Long & Robinson, Libby advocates for companies in the construction industry in all types of disputes including claims of defective or incomplete work, delay and payment claims, mechanics’ lien and bond claims, insurance coverage and more.

Clients appreciate Libby’s ability to recognize and evaluate key issues from both a legal and personal perspective, an approach developed from being constantly surrounded by the construction industry both at home and, now, at work.  Libby’s great grandfather founded a specialized subcontracting business in the 1940s and her family members continue to be an integral part of operations there, and for another major design-build contractor.  Her background brings valuable understanding and shapes her ability to provide clear communication of complex matters and strategic guidance to resolve conflicts.

Libby graduated from the University of San Diego and earned her law degree from Washburn University School of Law. While in law school, Libby served as an Articles Editor for the Washburn Law Journal and her case comment was selected for publication. Libby was also the Social Chair and served on the Community Service Committee for her legal fraternity. Libby now serves as a board member for the Young Ambassadors Board of The Children’s Place, a not-for-profit foundation that serves to help children and families heal from life’s major traumas.
